The Change Americans hope for was covered in Obama's inaugural speech yesterday.

I would read it if you didn't hear it.
We want change, not away from the core principles of our Great Nation and Founding Documents. But from 30 or so years of policies that lead away from the American Dream for so many, and consolidated riches, power and influence to few.
So the Change we seek is an economic policy that is responsible in it's spending, is fair to all, and provides a opportunity for working Americans to take care of their families and live up to their responsibilities. That invests in innovation.
We want Change from a security policy that asks us to take a leap of faith as we wield our military like a sword in poorly conceived open ended campaigns with no benchmarks, or goals to let is know when our job is done. Saying it is done when it's done when the price in American families blood and treasure is so high.
We want change from the sense that privileged have undue influence on policy and Washington. And the Constitution and rights our citizens remain sacrosanct. For too long it seems although we change with the times and grow our great nation, that Government uses the Constitution as a tool for it's agenda, and hide behind it instead of Protecting it.
I have faith that we are in a time of great Change. Because we have begun to SEE the effects of Corporate Greed, and excess in Washington.
I am am also glad to have witnessed the first Black man sworn in as President. I think it speaks to the great possibilities of this nation. That any American. Don't matter the circumstance, where you come from, what color you are..can achieve anything. I believe IT!
So now what?
I don't know, we will see won't we? Obama inherited huge and serious political, social, and economic challenges. I believe He is up to it. I believe WE are up to it.
But I doubt theres a quick fix. Challenges and obstacles are be fore us. But We are Americans there isn't a problem we can't beat.
Good luck Obama.

He's definitively got a tough job ahead of him.
But, it's interesting, I keep seeing all of these comments about how he can't possibly live up to the extremely high (messiah-ish) expectations that his supporters supposedly have, but I'd rather have a President who TRIES to meet our expectation, and fails, then to start off with a President that we're convinced will be mediocre.
And, heck, maybe he will fix everything? Maybe by the end of his first term will be back to have budget surpluses, and relative peace? It MIGHT happen.
Like he said in his speech about those who assume that America's slide is somehow "inevitable," and that we should just prepare for the worst. But that's defeatist thinking.
His starts work today. He's got 4 years. No point in predicting either way what will happen. All we can do know, is sit back & watch.
I think he can do everything. But has serious challanges to his stated goals. Special interrests are a motherfu..shut yo mouth!. And the beauracratic machine and lobbyists will be serious matters to deal with in addition to change failed policy that benefitted many insiders, cronies and elites.
im willing to give him thebenefit of the doubt now. If he has been honest, especially about his belief in teh Founding Principles and Dcouments we will be ok. And so will he.
I'm just saying to remember my reposted blog from 2 years ago, where I was POSITIVE that he would NEVER get elected. So we see how things can change, even when we don't expect it.
He definitely won't be able to wave a magic wand & fix everything. But it seems like too many people are trying to brace themselves, and others, for the inevitable disappoints that they are now sure will come. Like I said, he's got 4 years now. Let's give him time. I don't even like the emphasize on the "first 100 days" that seems to have come in the past few elections. That's too early to judge how a whole term will be, whether good or bad. A more honest assessment could be made by the end of 2010, when we see how the mid-term congressional elections turn out. And even that's no gaurantee of how the public will judge the President.
I remember when Gingrich and the Republicans took over congress in 1994. I remember the political obituaries being written about Bill Clinton. He was done. Irrelevent. Destined to lose in 1996. But he got reelected and left office after his 2nd term with huge popularity.
Before that, I remember when George H.W. Bush was considered invincible after the first Gulf War. All the "real" Democratic contenders were initially scared to run against him. People were hoping for Mario Cuomo or Jay Rockerfeller, but they didn't enter the race. Bill Clinton basically won by default.
So, again, anything can happen. Who knows what kind of blogs we'll be writing in Jan. 2013?
The ironic thing is that if Bush wasn't as terrible a President as he was, then we might never have had the chance to see someone in office with as much potential as Obama. Or maybe it just would have taken a little longer?
Regardless, I think that, for once, the best possible candidate finally won and for the first time in a LONG time, I feel hopeful. It actually helps me wake up in a better mood in the mornings.
